I grew up in Texas, surrounded by Spanish — but never actually learned it.
That changed in my 20s, when I decided to go all in: I started from scratch, earned a Master’s in Teaching Spanish from Northern Arizona University, moved to Mexico, and eventually married a Mexicana.
Since then, I’ve taught 10,000+ students, created a library of no-fluff Spanish programs, and built Bilingual Badass to help real adults like you speak Spanish confidently — without memorizing grammar rules, wasting time in classrooms, or needing to live abroad.
🚫 From Frustrated Learner to Fluent Speaker
Like most people, I started out frustrated — honestly, I was a terrible Spanish student in school.
Textbooks taught me conjugations, but not how to order tacos.
Traditional classes gave me vocabulary lists, but not the confidence to actually talk to people.
So I did something different.
I started watching telenovelas, using technology, and eventually moved to Mexico to immerse myself in the language people actually speak — not the polished, classroom version.
I learned Spanish from locals in the neighborhood, from novelas, and from real conversations where I made mistakes, got corrected, and improved.
It wasn’t perfect — but it was real.
And that’s the exact no‑B.S. approach I teach today.

I believe language learning should be practical, empowering, and actually fun — not boring, intimidating, or disconnected from real life.
